Privacy Policy

VeriMate collects only what it needs to show you real, verified people nearby, and never sells your personal information.
VeriMate ("VeriMate", "we", "us") is a dating app for iPhone and Android, operated by Curt DeBartolo. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. Questions: verimate@proton.me.
What we collect
| Information | What it is | Where it is kept |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Email address, password (stored encrypted by our sign-in provider), first name, phone number | Online (Google Firebase) |
| Live face check video | A few seconds of live camera video while you do the face check, used only to confirm you are a real, live person (not a photo, screen or mask) | Not stored by VeriMate. Sent over an encrypted connection to Amazon Web Services, which checks it and returns the result |
| Verification photos | Three still photos of your face from the live face check, used to confirm your profile photos show you | On your phone only. VeriMate never uploads or stores them online |
| Profile | Display name, age, city, bio, gender ("I am"), who you want to see ("Show me"), your main photo, up to 5 extra photos (all taken live in the app), prompt answers, an optional voice intro of up to 10 seconds, and basics such as height, job, kids, drinking, smoking, hair, body type and interests | Online; visible to other members |
| Verification dates | When you last completed the live face check (repeated every 6 months), the result of each face check attempt (passed or not, and a confidence score), and when you last opened the app | Online |
| Approximate location | Your rough location, rounded to about 1 km (half a mile), only if you allow it | On your phone and online |
| Home location | Your home area (the city you give, or your rough location when you choose "Use my current location"), rounded to about 1 km, whether your phone has confirmed you are near it, when it last changed, and whether Travel mode is on | Online. Other members see only your city, "Verified local" or "Visiting from", and a distance in miles, never the point itself |
| Activity | Likes (including any comment you add and which photo or prompt you liked), passes, matches, chat messages and voice messages (up to 10 seconds), reactions, a short-lived "typing" signal, when you last read a chat, and video call requests (who called whom, and when) | Online |
| Video calls | Live camera and microphone during a video call you choose to start or accept | Not recorded or stored. Streamed live between the two of you through our video provider, Agora |
| Safety records | People you block, reports you make or that are made about you (a reported voice message is attached to the report so it can be reviewed), answers to "Did they look like their photos?" (never shown to the other person), and any warnings or suspensions on your account | Online |
| Device information | A push notification address for your phone (issued by Apple on iPhone or Google on Android), so we can send alerts; and a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your phone's device ID, used only to stop suspended members from rejoining on the same phone. The real device ID never leaves your phone | Online |
We do not collect your exact location, contacts, or any payment card details (payments, when offered, are handled by Apple's App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android).
How we use it
- To verify you are real. During the live face check, Amazon Web Services analyzes a few seconds of camera video to confirm a real, live person is in front of the phone. The face check then compares your live photos with your profile photos. This comparison runs on your phone; the face measurements it creates are not stored online. Every 6 months you repeat the face check, and it is compared with your existing main photo to make sure the account still belongs to the same person.
- To run the app. Showing profiles on Discover, matching people who like each other, delivering messages, "Seen" status and unread badges.
- To match you sensibly. Age range, distance, "I am" / "Show me", and any detailed filters you choose decide who appears to whom. The order of Discover also considers who has liked you, recent activity and how complete profiles are. Each member has a limit on active matches, and matches with no message after 7 days close automatically.
- To keep people safe. Blocks hide people from each other. Reports are reviewed by a person and may lead to a warning or a suspension. A suspended account's phone number and scrambled device ID are kept on a block list so the person cannot simply create a new account.
- To let matches video chat. Both people must agree to a call, cameras start off, and calls are never recorded. We check that you are matched and haven't blocked each other before a call can connect.
- To notify you. New match, new message, video call and occasional "someone likes you" alerts, which you can turn off in your phone's settings.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Who can see your information
| Who | What they can see |
|---|---|
| Other members who fit your filters | Display name, age, city, approximate distance (for example "3 mi away"), bio, your photos, prompt answers and basics you chose to add, and the "Live verified" label. If you like someone with a comment, they see the comment and what you liked |
| Your matches | The above, plus the messages you exchange with them and whether you have read their latest message |
| People you block, or who block you | Nothing further about you |
| Amazon Web Services | Checks the short live face check video for us as our service provider, to confirm a real, live person is present. VeriMate does not store this video |
| Agora | Carries live video calls between matched members for us as our service provider. Calls are not recorded |
| Apple and Google | Deliver push notifications to your phone. When you type a city for your home location, your phone's built-in map service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) turns it into a map point |
| Google Firebase | Stores and processes the online data for us as our service provider, under Google's security and privacy terms |
| Authorities | Only when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety |
Your gender and "Show me" choice are used for matching and shown only on your own profile screen. Your exact location, email address and phone number are never shown to other members.
Early-access list (our website)
If you join the early-access list on our website, we keep your email address, whether you use iPhone or Android, the city or ZIP code you choose to give, and how you found us (for example a social-media link). We use this only to tell you about VeriMate's launch and your founding-member offer. It is stored with Google Firebase, never sold, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by emailing verimate@proton.me; every email we send will also include a way to unsubscribe.
How long we keep it, and deleting your account
We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Settings → Delete account, or by emailing verimate@proton.me if you can no longer sign in. See Delete your account.
Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, main photo, likes, blocks, push notification address and login, and wipes VeriMate's data for your account from that phone. Messages you sent may remain visible to the person you sent them to until their account is also deleted, the same as a text message. Reports you made, or that were made about you, may be kept for up to 12 months to protect other members. If an account is suspended, its phone number and scrambled device ID stay on our block list for as long as the suspension lasts.
Your choices
- Pause your profile to disappear from Discover while keeping your matches and chats.
- Block anyone; neither of you will see the other again.
- Location is optional. Without it, distances are not shown and distance filters will not include you. Your home location is used to place you in Discover and to show the "Verified local" badge when your phone confirms you are near it. You can change your home once every 30 days, while you are there. Travel mode is optional and labels your profile "Visiting".
- Video chat is always optional: decline any call, keep your camera off, mute, or end and report at any time.
- Notifications can be turned off in your phone's settings.
- Your name and age are locked after verification; contact verimate@proton.me if they are wrong.
- A copy or correction of your information is available on request at verimate@proton.me.
Security
Your data, including video calls, is sent over encrypted connections and stored on Google Firebase. Access rules limit each member to their own account and their own conversations. No system is perfect, so please use a strong password and tell us about anything suspicious.
Age requirement
VeriMate is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger, and we delete any such account we find.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell you in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
